Keyword Research Part 1:

What are Keywords?

Most simply these are words which relate to a particular topic or interest. These words are like metaphoric keys which unlock a particular theme. Web users use these words to find what they are looking for be it love, money or just about anything else.

Keywords in the analogue era

The concept of keywords is nothing new. Searching for a specific word in a book’s index or table of contents is an ancient practise. More recently yet before the digital age directories like the Yellow Pages listed businesses according to name, industry, location etc.

What is Keyword Research

There are potentially multiple definitions of, “keyword research”.  A working definitions is, “research relating to the popularity of certain keywords used to search for and find specific information”

Relating to Online marketing “keyword research” is generally done with a financial goal in mind. The goal is to find out which keywords are being used by searchers to find what you’re offering.

Another way of approaching keyword research is to use keyword research in order to predetermine what you should be offering  - rather than using it to get the highest number of people possible to see whatever it is you are already offering.
